Feeling Safe is Central to the Health and Well-Being of Your Pet:

Give Your Pet this Special Gift of Safety

Recently because of so many important destiny-changing decisions my husband and I had to make, I was feeling very nervous and off-center. Because of this time of uncertainty, when it felt as though we were besieged with challenges, I was also not feeling very safe and protected. As I now have more perspective, I see that the many challenges Spirit was putting on our path were just a way to insistently get our attention and force us to move in a direction other than the one where we thought we should be headed.
It seems this is often the way God and the angels like to work with me. It’s probably the way they work with you too.  I guess it’s why the phrase “We make plans and God laughs” is so oft repeated. Spirit shakes things up in your life, and amidst any darkness, Spirit eventually sends in the light to help restore calm and balance as you are shown a new vision for your highest good.

During these times when your world is rocked, Spirit longs for your faith to be strong and unwavering. That’s not always easy for most of us. When life becomes like a roller coaster, I have a tendency to go into fear and get kind of cranky with Spirit. Even as a child, I never really liked roller coasters. And I didn’t feel especially safe going slowly up that first big hill and then careening downward and zooming around on the seemingly fragile railings.

When I get frightened, Spirit always sends me messages and signs, like the numbers 222, 444 and 555 that I have been seeing repeatedly in recent months. The number 222 means that I should maintain my faith and know that all will be well as Spirit is working hard for the highest good of all involved (http://sacredscribesangelnumbers.blogspot.com/2011/07/angel-number-222.html ).
The number 444 means that angels are all around me, reassuring me and validating the sacred path I am on (http://sacredscribesangelnumbers.blogspot.com/2011/09/angel-number-444.html.)
Number 555 is an omen for great changes and transformations ahead that might be challenging, but will be well worth the shift and effort. It affirms that all happens for a reason and to be prepared to release the old and open to embrace the new (http://sacredscribesangelnumbers.blogspot.com/2011/09/angel-number-555.html.)
During these times when my stomach feels as though it is dancing or that someone has sucker-punched me in my solar plexus, it is hard to feel safe, relaxed and creative. And it can be hard to maintain your faith as you feel you are plummeting into a sea of unpleasant life challenges.
It’s at those times that we are called to shift our thoughts and “Walk on Water.” The angels shared with me that so much of my life has been about “walking on water.” I did a very special meditation about it that you can listen to here.

What about our pets? What happens when their world is rocked in some way, whether they get sick, are attacked by another dog, are afraid of loud noises, thunder and fireworks? What happens when their world feels like a scary place, when a certain kind of person frightens them or they don’t feel safe going out on walks with you?

In my e-book, 25 Ways to Maintain a Happy and Healthy Dog, the fifth way is to do whatever you can to ensure that your dog feels safe. Here is a little of what I share:
“Feeling safe is central to the health and well-being not only of dogs, but of people too. If we do not feel safe in our homes or when we go out, when we interact with others, all else is secondary to finding ways to feel safe, whatever they may be. We cannot thrive if we don’t feel safe. Most of us could not really function well if we were in a constant state of fear or worry. It is the same for our dogs.”
I tell a story of what happened to my dog Harry when the maintenance men came to check all the smoke detectors in my house. He definitely was not feeling very safe at that time as the loud sirens were all being activated.

Murry, Judie's Dog

When Murry felt much safer in a Tellington TTouch® session, some miracles happened. Photo by Judie Paterno-Skolnick.

In my e-book, 25 Ways to Maintain a Happy and Healthy Dog, I share the miracle that happened during one of my Tellington TTouch® sessions when I made sure the dog I was working with felt safe. In it, I also share an article by Edie Jane Eaton, one of my Tellington TTouch® instructors, about how important safety is for animals and what happens when you offer them some freedom, space and choices.
If you would like to learn all I share in the fifth way of my e-book and why it is so important for your dog to feel safe, you can listen to this section below that is part of my “happy and healthy” canine audio book. If you would like to purchase the audio book of 25 Ways to Maintain a Happy and Healthy Dog, you will automatically receive a free copy of the downloadable e-book. I also offer many ways to help calm a dog that is fearful in this and other sections of my e-book.
Think about what happens to you and your central nervous system when you feel as though you are in jeopardy, when you are facing uncertainty and the unfamiliar. Then think of how your pet might feel when he is facing some new situations that might be challenging for him.
During this Valentine’s week , one of the best gifts you can give your dog or other pet is the gift of safety and peace of mind. Let your pet know just how loved he is. If you can shift anything to help him feel better and safer, make that effort. When your pet feels safe, he will blossom in ways you never expected. It’s actually amazing how similar our pets are to us and how often they take on our physical, mental and emotional issues. We are always so deeply connected to our pets. It’s likely that when your pet is calmer and feeling more relaxed, so will you.
